Historic Amesbury
Settled in 1642
Amesbury is a diverse New England town, tucked into the hills and fields along the Powow and Merrimack Rivers on the seacoast north of Boston. From 1853 well into the 1900s, Amesbury carriages, known around the world for their workmanship and style, were the economic heartbeat of the town. The Merrimack Hat Factory at its peak prouced more head gean than any of its competitors. And the nation's number one candy was, for a while, Hoyt's Buffalo Brand Peanut Butter Kisses, proudly produced in Amesbury.
As a newcomer to the area, you'll discover qualities that the natives have long enjoyed.
With its picturesque natural setting; access to the outdoors: hiking, skiing, boating and swimming; its neighborly, informal atmosphere; strong schools; excellent health-care facilities; a well-stocked public library; and a supportive environment for the arts make Amesbury a very special place to call home. In addition, Amesbury offers commuters close proximity to New England's major cities and highways.
